Spin To The Races With Cheltenham

The Cheltenham Festival gets underway today and is one of the biggest horse racing events on the British calendar. To get you in the mood for this racing extravaganza, we take a look at some of the key events of the four-day festival and highlight some of the horse racing-themed slots you can play at LiveRoulette.

Festival Highlights

The first key moment of the Cheltenham Festival happens as the first race gets underway. As the starter gives the orders, the crowd goes wild, creating a noise known as the ‘Cheltenham Roar’. From that moment on, the Festival is in full swing.

Behind the party atmosphere, there is some serious racing going on. There are 14 Grade 1 races across the four days, including the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle, Champion Hurdle, Queen Mother Champion Chase, Stayers’ Hurdle and Cheltenham Gold Cup. The other 14 races include a mix of Grade 2, Grade 3, Listed and Ungraded events.

The Big Race

The biggest race of the four days is the Cheltenham Gold Cup, which is the fourth race on the Friday schedule. The Gold Cup is a Grade 1 National Hunt race run over a distance of three miles, two furlongs and 70 yards (5,294 m) and features 22 fences. This showpiece event is open to horses aged five years and over and is one of the most prestigious of all National Hunt events. It is sometimes called the Blue Riband of jump-racing.

Did You Know?

The most successful Gold Cup horse of all time was Golden Miller, who won the race five consecutive times between 1932 and 1936. Jockey, Pat Taafe, holds the record for the most wins with a total of four, three of which he achieved on legendary horse Arkle in 1964, 1965 and 1966. Tom Dreaper remains the leading trainer with seven wins, the first of which came in 1946 and the last in 1968.

Other famous Gold Cup Winners include Best Mate, Kauto Star, Denman and Mill House. If you fancy placing a stake on any of the 2020 races, head over to Betsafe for a huge choice of markets.

Racing-Themed Slots To Play At LiveRoulette

If you want to get in the racing mood, there are plenty of racing-themed games available, including Racetrack Riches Megaboard. This brand-new title from iSoftBet launched ahead of this year’s Cheltenham Festival and is the first game to use the unique Megaboard mechanic system.

You must complete three laps of the course to trigger the big-money multiplier and ride off with a tidy sum of up to £100,000 under your saddle. This is an innovative game which uses the latest game mechanics. Anyone who enjoys betting on horses will love racing for the finishing line this new game.

Scudamore’s Super Stakes

If you only play one racing slot game this year make sure you play Scudamore’s Super Stakes from NetEnt. The game is named after Peter Scudamore, the eight-time former champion jockey, trainer and TV pundit. Scudamore won 13 races at Cheltenham, including two Champion Hurdles on Celtic Shot in 1988 and Granville Again in 1993 and a Queen Mother Champion Chase on Pearlyman in 1987. It is only fitting that NetEnt chose the Scudamore name for their 2019 slot release.

The game is a 5-reel, 3-row slot with 20 fixed paylines and features many symbols you would expect to see on such as themed slot, namely horses, jockeys, horseshoes and trophies. One of the best features of the game is Peter’s Classic Cup, an in-game horse race that is activated when three Scatter symbols appear on the first, third and fifth reels in the main game. The game transforms into a 5-reel, 4-row video slot with 32 fixed paylines and a race track.

Players must pick one of four horses to win the race and claim a win up to 5,000x your stake. The reels continue to spin while the race takes place.

The game also features a unique Bet Slip feature that allows you to make a side bet during the game. A symbol is selected and the Bet Slip tracks the number of times it appears during a certain number of spins. The Bet Slip feature pays out the multiplier times your stake value. You can only have one Bet Slip active at any one time.

The game features an RTP of 96.99%, excellent graphics and music to make you feel like you are galloping along with the action.

Other Recommended Slots

For something horse-related but a little different, why not try Lightning Horseman? This video slot game offers scares and thrills in abundance thanks to its skull-faced horseman theme. This 5-reel, 3-row, 40-payline slots game is set in a haunted-looking forest under a full moon. During play, you’ll see treasure chests, crows, woodcutter’s cabins, a lady in a red cape and a frightened-looking man holding a lantern.

If you prefer dogs to horses, Play’n GO’s Wildhound Derby might be for you. This greyhound racing slot oozes with the atmosphere of a night at the races. The 5-reel, 4-row slot features 30 fixed paylines, five wilds, a winner’s wheel and free spins. Symbols include bet slips, bundles of cash, rosettes and, of course, greyhounds. If four greyhounds appear at the same time, you go off to the races and have to back a dog to win. The dogs move across the reels when golden hares appear and the winner is the one which makes it past the first reel. In this highly volatile game, you can win up to 15,000x your stake.

With plenty of racing action and a great choice of horse racing-themed slots, make sure you make the most of this year’s Cheltenham Festival.
